Introduction
Inclusive education is a key pedagogical approach in which parental attitudes play a crucial role. The successful implementation of inclusion is closely related to the development and impact of these attitudes.
Aims
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between parental attitudes and inclusive education, to identify factors influencing these attitudes, and to present national and international good practices and intervention programs.
Methods
The study is based on a systematic literature review. Four Hungarian scientific journals (Gyógypedagógiai Szemle, Magyar Pedagógia, Új Pedagógiai Szemle, and Gyermeknevelés) were analyzed using predefined keywords (“special educational needs”, “SEN”, “inclusion”, “integration”, “parent”, “attitude”). After excluding irrelevant and duplicate results, a total of 22 relevant studies were included in the analysis.
Results
Parental attitudes are complex, multidimensional factors shaped by individual, institutional, and social influences. Although inclusion is theoretically accepted, its practical implementation faces barriers such as prejudice and lack of institutional support. Positive attitudes are facilitated by open, two-way communication and cooperation.
Conclusion
The study highlights that parental involvement is essential for the successful implementation of inclusive education. Conscious cooperation between families and institutions supports the development of an inclusive environment and contributes to reducing stigmatization.
